Should I fast?
Yes — iron levels can vary with food, especially iron-fortified foods. Fast for 8 hours.
I take iron supplements — when should I test?
Most labs ask you to stop supplements 24–48 hours before testing. Check with your doctor first.
Why ferritin instead of just iron?
Ferritin is a much more stable marker of long-term iron stores. Iron alone bounces around with food.
