Why HbA1c instead of just a glucose reading?

A single fasting glucose tells you what your blood sugar is right now. HbA1c reflects what it's been on average for the last 3 months — far more useful as a long-term signal.

What's a healthy HbA1c?

Australian labs typically classify below 5.7% (39 mmol/mol) as normal, 5.7–6.4% as pre-diabetic range, and 6.5%+ as diabetic range. A single reading isn't a diagnosis — discuss any out-of-range result with your doctor.

I do intermittent fasting — does that affect results?

It can. Test in your usual fasting window for consistency, and tell your doctor about your eating pattern when discussing results.
